SUPPORT Air Service at Washington Airports
- Advocate for initiatives that enhance air service competitiveness, balance air traffic between Dulles and National, expand facilities, and promote cargo and corporate aviation growth at both airports.
DRIVE Region-Wide Economic Development
- Support smart land-use development at Dulles, manage Dulles Foreign Trade Zone – 137 (FTZ), foster surrounding economic growth, champion sustainability in aviation and form partnerships to advance WATF’s mission.
PROMOTE Enhanced Regional Multi-Modal Transportation Network
- Advocate for improvements to transportation infrastructure, enhancing regional access to the airports from all directions.
LEAD Industry and Community Fundraising Initiatives
- Generate meaningful support, driving positive impact and empower both individuals and organizations to thrive through these collective efforts.
Board of Directors
- WATF maintains a diverse and influential Board, composed of thought leaders who drive regional economic growth and champion the importance of Dulles and National airports.

Driving Relevant Growth
In alignment with the organization’s overarching priorities, these goals will serve as a strategic framework to strengthen WATF’s efforts in enhancing the economic impact of aviation services, not only within the Commonwealth of Virginia but also acIdentify and actively pursue key industry-related facilities and services that will enhance capabilities to meet evolving demands:ross the broader National Capital Region. Through targeted initiatives and collaborative partnerships, WATF aims to drive sustained growth and innovation in the aviation sector, positioning it as a vital contributor to regional and national economic development.
1. Promote a robust and balanced airport system between Dulles, National and intra-Virginia airports:
- Advocate for modern and expanded airport facilities that align with the rising tide of demand for United Airlines’ “Decade of Dulles” hub expansion at the Dulles E Concourse opening in September 2026, and groundbreaking of next expansion phase of the midfield concourse.
- Partner with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) Air Traffic Control (ATC) and United Airlines (UAL) to capitalize on federal interest in funding Dulles customer improvements for projects such as the fifth runway, concourse expansions and conveyance system improvements.
- Evaluate expected official findings of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), from the January 29, 2025, Reagan National accident, and provide any comments necessary in editorials, media interview and public testimony, in support to insure a “safety-first”, better, not bigger, Reagan National Airport.
- Promote the convenience of choice among the Commonwealth’s airports in feeding hub airline networks at Dulles and National Airports benefiting economic growth within the region and industry.
- In partnership with Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance (NVTA) and Viginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), advocate for surface transportation improvements, including the American Legion Bridge expansion and a new West Potomac River crossing, to enhance regional accessibility, reduce congestion, and boost economic opportunities.
2. Identify and actively pursue key industry-related facilities and services that will enhance capabilities to meet evolving demands:
- Continue to shepherd and partner with Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) and MWAA Dulles Cargo Gateway efforts to expand existing air cargo business and identify anchor tenants for capital development of southern site identified as “Cargo Activities.”
- Support the integration and development of AAM (Advanced Aerial Mobility), such as Electra-aero, Joby Aviation, and Boom Supersonic, at Dulles and National Airports.
- Adopt a proactive strategy to target and promote the Dulles Foreign Trade Zone, leveraging current economic conditions and international tariff challenges to maximize opportunities.
- Partners with local tourism bureaus, such as Visit Loudoun, Fairfax and Prince William County, to identify programs and opportunities for future growth.
3. Strengthening brand awareness:
- Actively cultivate relationships and mutually beneficial partnerships with elected officials, industry partners, and sponsors by demonstrating the value we bring to these stakeholders creating opportunities that drive meaningful outcomes and further our mission.
- Organize networking opportunities such as roundtables and panel/interactive sessions for the Board of Directors to actively contribute to key initiatives and current affairs, leveraging each member’s unique experience and expertise.
- Design and coordinate a dynamic and impactful Annual General Meeting and Williams Trophy presentation that effectively highlights and reinforces the organization’s mission and key priorities.
